about

ICP 017-018 were recorded between 1973 and 1975 and originally released on dual cassette as a pair called "Coincidents (ICP017/018)". In 2012, when the cassettes were transferred to CD for the ICP 50-CD box set, each side of the original cassettes was placed on its own CD, thus there is a CD1 and CD2 for ICP 017 (Coincidents I) and a CD1 and CD2 for ICP 018 (Coincidents II).

However: a manufacturing error resulted in both CD1 and CD2 for ICP 017 containing exactly the same music (which, in the box set, is Coincidents I B-1). So, we hereby present ICP017 in its entirety for the first time since 1976. The lack of clear, audible or visual track boundaries on these cassette recordings (vs. LPs and CDs), combined with the cryptic nature of the cover credits suggested that the most authentic presentation of the digital tracks would be to leave them as unclear and mysterious as the original cassettes were: side A and side B.

If you are already an owner of the boxset, please contact us at subdist@gmail.com and we'll work out the best way to get this music to you. Thank you.

Han Bennink: drums cymbals d/a clarinet hanrinet(te) soft clarinet voice saw tins vibrapan home made junk.

Misha Mengelberg: piano vocals.
